Devils hook Sharks 7-3
At the DCU Center Wednesday afternoon, the Lowell Devils stomped all over the Worcester Sharks 7-3 earning their third consecutive win.
Right out of the gate, the visiting Lowell Devils took a promising 2-0 lead thanks to a few early penalties on Worcester. Skating down ice on a two-man advantage, #20 Matt Taormina fired his sixth goal of the season past Sharks goaltender #32 Alex Stalock to make it 1-0. Nearly a minute later, #14 Nathan Perkovich tallied in Lowell’s second goal of the contest.
With a lot going on in Devils territory, #53 Brandon Mashinter tagged in a goal for the Sharks cutting the lead in half on an open netter.
In the second period of play, the Devils scored three goals for a 5-2 lead at the end of two. #25 Nick Palmieri, #17 Vladimir Zharkov, and #33 Trevor Kell each netted in goals for Lowell as Worcester was forced to pull Stalock and replace him with #31 Tyson Sexsmith.
Once the Sharks changed goalies, #14 Frazer McLaren tagged home a goal putting the Sharks within two of the Devils until Kell gave the Jr. Devs a three goal lead again firing a shot past Sexsmith for his first goal of the season.
In the final period of play, the Devils weren’t done as #9 Ben Walter’s pass deflected off Zharkov making it 6-2. #34 Jeff Prough, recalled from the Trenton Devils this morning tallied in his first goal of the season to up the ante to 7-2.
#9 Logan Couture of Worcester scored the last goal of the game with four minutes remaining in regulation.
In the game, Devils goaltender #31 Jeff Frazee saved 30 of 33 shots. Sharks goaltender Stalock saved 7 shots as Sexsmith saved 13.
The next Lowell Devils game is at the Tsongas Arena on Friday, Nov. 13 against the Worcester Sharks. Going into the game, the Devils are 8-5-3-0 and the Sharks are 8-5-0-1.
