River Rats upset Devils 5-4

River Rats ran down the Devils 5-4 in overtime.

According to http://www.lowelldevils.com/, in the first period of play, #11 Stephen Gionta sunk in the Devils first of three goals. #8 Matt Corrente put the Devils up 2-0 firing a slap shot past 'Rats goaltender Mike Murphy. #7 Tyler Eckford and #24 Alexander Vasyunov each earned an assist on the play. As the clock struck 11:54, #23 Michael Swift sunk in Lowell's third goal of the night in the first period to make it 3-0.

The River Rats didn't drift too far down the river though as in the second period #26 Nicolas Blanchard powered home a slap shot past Devils goaltender #1 Mike McKenna to put Albany on the board, 1-0. Nearly three minutes thereafter #9 Drayson Bowman tapped in a rebound passing McKenna to up the ante in the game making it 3-2 Devils.

In the final period of play, #8 Nick Dodge twinned up the game 3-3 scoring on a ricochet off the boards. Four minutes after Dodge knotted up the game, Devils #12 Tim Sestito found #20 Matt Taormina who netted the go-ahead goal making it 4-3 until #25 Chris Terry scored for Albany knotting the game up at four.

In overtime, #2 Jamie McBain’s second goal of the season with 1:02 on the clock put the game away with a 'Rats win.

In the match up, three Devils tallied in multiple points: Vasyunov (0-2-2), Eckford (0-2-2), and Corrente (1-1-2). Goaltender McKenna saved 30-of-35 shots in the loss.

The next Lowell Devils game is at the Tsongas Arena on Saturday, Nov. 7 against the Providence Bruins. Going into the game, the Devils are 5-5-3-0 and the Jr. B's are 5-7-1-0.
